A peaceful democracy is a country that works within the frame of the United Nations, and respect other countries.
But Israel keep always ignore UN resolutions. It does not listen to anyone. That doesn’t make it a peaceful democracy. It makes it an outlaw dictatorship, a breaker of international law, and a threat to world peace. Are you aware of the number of UN resolutions ignored by Israel? Are you aware of the Israeli war crimes recorded by Human Rights Watch?
*Israel always ignores
How do you get the world to hate Israel?
You have the United Nations set up an agency whose sole function it is to make sure that this one group of refugees in the whole world are coddled, advocated for, and repeat, mantra-like, that a human “right of return” has been sanctified and assured by international law for the Palestinians, giving only this group of refugees a collective, as opposed to individual, right of return—and not only to those refugees who supposedly lived in and left what is now Israel, but all of their descendents, as well.
You use the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council of the United Nations to further demonize and delegitimate Israel, making it a pariah in the world community and issuing an edict that equates Zionism with racism. In 2006-07, if you are the Human Rights Council, you pass one hundred percent of your condemnatory resolutions against Israel.
If you are the autocratic, despotic states of the Arab world, you initiate a prolonged, unceasing propaganda war against Israel and Zionism, in which it is your intention to encourage your citizens, not to question why they live under tyranny and despair under their own corrupt, defective governments, but that their circumstances are bleak because of the success and very existence of Israel. You depict Jews as apes, pigs, and subhuman monsters, and regularly produce Nazi-like propaganda and cartoons in your state-owned media that accuses Jews and Israelis of blood libels, bloodthirstiness, militarism, a desire for world domination, imperialism, and complicity with the U.S.

Our "back against the wall" mentality has always overshadowed any wishes by the international community. But in my humble opinion, it’s wearing a little thin these days.

the UN is an anti-semitic organization where representatives of totalitarian dictatorships sponsor these resolutions. There are a lot of Arab dictatorships (like all of them) and they somehow like to accuse Israel of human rights abuses.

Because the UN is nothing more than a mouthpiece for second rate, third world tyrannies. It is as much an enemy of the Israelis as the terrorists.
While the enemy is barraging Israeli civilians with rockets and suicide bombers and gunning children down in their homes; and while UN "peacekeepers" are raping children they are supposed to be protecting, and the UN is putting nations like the Sudan in charge of the Human Rights Commission, I see no reason why anyone should be interested UN blather about Israeli "war crimes".
Israel is the only nation on earth barred from sitting on the UN Security Council, so why should Israel give a tinker’s dam about the UN?
A more constructive answer would be that the arabs usually ignore UN resolutions that apply to them as well. The most famous example is UN Security Council Resolution 242 (UNSCR 242) — the "land for peace" resolution passed after the Six Day War. Palestinian advocates consistently maintain that Israel has to pull out of the West Bank based on 242, but UNSCR 242 doesn’t say that. UNSCR 242 actually calls for a dual requirement, Israeli withdrawal coupled with:
"Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force."
The arabs never kept up their end either, but somehow only the Israelis are called to task for it.
On March 30, 2002 in response to Israel’s Operation Defensive Shield against terrorist bases and operatives in the territories, the UN passed UNSCR 1402. One line of that Resolution, "calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from palestinian cities, including Ramallah" — that is the line often used in verbal attacks on Israel. But another, equally valid line calls for "an immediate cessation of all acts of violence, including all acts of terror, provocation, incitement and destruction." Why should Israel withdraw until the acts of the latter sentence have ceased, including provocation and incitement that continue among palestinians at a fever pitch? This is especially true given that Israeli withdrawal would certainly increase the potential and opportunity for more acts of violence, terror, provocation, incitement and destruction. Israel has been very good on compliance when the entire resolution is taken into account, not just the sentence the anti-Israel advocate wants us to look at.
The pattern of behavior is very consistent:
1. Israel is attacked.
2. Israel defends itself.
3. The UN or other international group steps in to end the violence, calling for both sides to take certain actions to resolve the situation.
4. The intransigence and non-compliance of Israel’s enemies delays implementation and leads to only partial Israeli compliance.
5. Israel is blamed for failing to comply fully while the failures of Israel’s enemies are ignored.
So, one has to ask, why should Israel be expected to comply suicidally with these resolutions in the face of arab refusal to comply with the terms that apply to them?

This is a fallacy.
Every year there are hundreds of useless, anti-Israel General Assembly resolutions passed by the UN at the behest of Israel hating Arab nations. Most of these are propaganda, just like the spew you’ve written above. They have no legal force whatsoever.
The only resolutions that are legally binding are UN Security Council resolutions. Arab nations quite often attempt to pass one sided resolutions here, too (–the kind that ignore the extensive terrorism perpetrated upon Israeli citizens), but they fail to pass or are vetoed by the US. Failed or vetoed resolutions have no legal force whatsoever.
A common delusion among the pro-Palestinian crowd is that UNSCR 242 requires unilateral Israeli withdrawal from territories won in 1967. It most emphatically does not. It indicates that Israel should return territories (does not say "all the territories") in exchange for recognition, peace, and security. It recognized Israel’s situation, the fact that the war was forced on Israel, and that the Arab nations in ‘67 were, de facto, the aggressors. The Arabs rejected 242 because it required them to recognize Israel’s right to peace and security. Until Egypt signed an agreement with Israel in 1979, no Arab state was willing to offer this. If any nation was in breach of 242, it was the Arab nations. Israel has returned territories when her neighbors were willing to recognize her and sign a peace treaty. Therefore, Israel has not ignored any legally binding UN resolutions.
Perhaps you are referring to the recent UN resolution calling for a cease-fire. It calls for mutual action, but quite specifically does not involve any specific UN intervention. Palestinians for some odd reason interpret this to mean that Israel should stop firing and Hamas can go back to business as usual–lobbing rockets at Israel with impunity. Hamas has expressed no interest in a cease-fire, so if you are worried about the Gazans, perhaps you should raise your concerns with them.
Hamas is not willing to recognize Israel. It is not willing to abide by a cease fire. Hamas wants war, and war is what they most assuredly have brought on themselves. Let’s see it through.
Your other claims are nonsense. Israel IS a democracy, the definition of which does not depend on whether you or anyone else approves of her policies.

Jews have been hated from the beginning of time. Its a known fact that Israel is not liked by many Arab nations. What do you expect the Jews do let down their forces? I don’t see any Arab countries ending their violence towards them. Some body has to begin the peace making and the Jews can’t afford to be the first.

Most likely because its enemies, from the instant of its creation, ignored the fact that it exists by reason of a United Nations mandate and declared war in defiance of international law.
Having once set themselves on the path of being international criminals (to say nothing of being a laughing stock for their incompetence), Israels enemies have, for the most part, never ceased in the criminal attempt to destroy Israel.
Even today, they persist in making open and outrageous declarations of their intention to continue their criminal assault. True, much of this is the type of bluster one expects to hear from blowhards and weaklings, as the enemies of Israel most certainly are, but it is accompanied by enough actual violence to justify acts of self defense by Israel.
Neither the UN General Assembly nor the Security Council has the legal authority to order a nation to cease an act of self defense. So any resolution by the UN or even the Security Council to the contrary is null and void ab initio.

No one listens to the UN unless it serves their purpose. That dog just ain’t got any teeth.
Even their members are disgusted with the way the UN forces serve. As well as the fact the UN doesn’t supply or back them.
Israel doesn’t care what they think or say.
Why should they?
Many democracies in the world have learned calling on the UN in a time of need is wasted energy and not many respect them.
I have been around almost as long as they have and I have never seen anything meaningful come from them.
They are quick to praise some and quicker to condemn others.
If that’s what you base your idea of what a democracy should be you never talked to anyone that fought for democracy.
For those that have fought freedom has a taste the protected will never know.

Unfortunately, the government of Israel is as corrupt as is the government of the USA. I’m sure the Israeli people would like peace but as long as the Neocons are making money from arms sales the warring will never end. Why do you think the US invaded Iraq? It wasn’t to "help" the Iraqi people. It wasn’t even for the oil. It was to produce a market for weapons. You can bet there’s some fatcats in Isreal who are getting filthy rich from this war and they are the ones pulling the strings. Israel can’t call themselves peaceful any more than we can here in the USA.

Maybe a better question should be: How many of the UN resolutions that Israel is ignoring are binding?
Another better question would be: How many UN resolutions, comparatively speaking, have been issued against countries that are known terrorist supporters or are known to have genuine human rights abuses?
Once you answer that, then you realize that the problem is not with Israel but with the UN.

Lol, the UN is dysfunctional. It says stuff that noone adheres to unless it has some advantage for them. No mandate is seen. Israel never was a peaceful country and never will be. And for those who say UN is anti-semitic, that’s a joke. It’s asking for peace, and Israelis just slap the word terrorist on the Palestinians and go. It’s like a lion calling a zebra a terrorist for kicking in self defense.
Not to mention that the US backs Israel to some degree. And if UN does support Palestine, it’ll become ‘terrorist’ and destroyed.

To neoimper : first the resolution 242 is very clear that Israel must withdraw from "all of the territories " it occupied, in the English version it was "from territories" Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict.
In Arabic version it was "the territories"
So they went to the French version , and it was "the territories"
Retrait des forces armées israéliennes des territoires occupés lors du récent conflit.
They continue arguing in that , because of the politics and aiding Israel of course, so most of the western countries agreed to the point of view that "des" means plural "des" so it is from territories, not "de" and "la" which means "the territories" .
Personally I asked everyone I know that knows French they all said it means "the territories", but , to my surprise, I found that from the countries that agreed with the meaning of "des" as "the" is FRANCE . so to argue you must say that you know French more than the French people themselves , more than France .
I believe the resolution was clear about asking Israel to withdraw with nothing more, and all arguments are the legal tricks from Israel which is by the way very clever in international law (when you are a mafia man, you need to have a good lawyer. When you are a trouble maker you need to be clever in law and know your rights to defend yourself)
Here is The resolution 242, read it and judge by yourself, and just answer if you launched an attack to all neighbor countries and occupied their lands , then the UN made that resolution, and you are someone who want to respect the Law, what will you do? Here it is :
The Security Council,
Expressing its continuing concern with the grave situation in the Middle East,
Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war and the need to work for a just and lasting peace in which every State in the area can live in security,
Emphasizing further that all Member States in their acceptance of the Charter of the United Nations have undertaken a commitment to act in accordance with Article 2 of the Charter,
1. Affirms that the fulfillment of Charter principles requires the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East which should include the application of both the following principles:
(i) Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories (the territories in Arabic and French versions) occupied in the recent conflict;
(ii) Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force;
2. Affirms further the necessity
(a) For guaranteeing freedom of navigation through international waterways in the area;
(b) For achieving a just settlement of the refugee problem;
(c) For guaranteeing the territorial inviolability and political independence of every State in the area, through measures including the establishment of demilitarized zones;
3. Requests the Secretary-General to designate a Special Representative to proceed to the Middle East to establish and maintain contacts with the States concerned in order to promote agreement and assist efforts to achieve a peaceful and accepted settlement in accordance with the provisions and principles in this resolution;
4. Requests the Secretary-General to report to the Security Council on the progress of the efforts of the Special Representative as soon as possible.
Israel until now didn’t withdraw from Syrian Golan heights, Lebanese Shebaa farms, Palestinian west bank, and even Gaza because they control it and suffocating it . and that is why there still a resistance from the Palestinian "Hamas" the Lebanese "Hizbullah" , and by the way Hizbullah was formed in a response for Israeli occupation of south Lebanon 1982 , and they kept fighting it till forcing it to withdraw in 2001 , and continue struggling for Shebaa farms .
To have a list for THE SHAMEFUL US vetoes against the world in all UN resolutions against Israel , go there :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Nations_resolutions_concerning_Israel
AS FOR THE MAIN QUESTION : yes it is democratic to it’s own people, but criminal to all neighbors and everybody go against it’s will …. And very nice and friendly to the US as it was friendly to Britain when it was the main power in the world, they know where to go and whom to make it an ally . but you know what? One day facts will be known, Americans will know the truth, and that will be a terrible day on Israel .
