What are the steps that the Government of India must take to resolve the water disputes between various states?

India, a nation which is proud of its unity in diversity, has many problems within. One of the primary problems faced by India is to resolve the water dispute between its states. This problem is prelevant in South India and many cases are proceeding in the Courts regarding the distribution of water. The GOvernment ought to take some steps to prevent such disputes so that the entire nation lives in harmony

I must thank ""AALUNGA"", who asked this question some two years ago but due to minimum response, I have asked it now.

First are you sure that GOI has any serious interest to resolve the water problems between states? It doesn’t have. For it is more interested in having power with the party by perpetuating the disputes that emanate from the states ruled by it or by its coalition. Hope you are clear now.

Do you think this country is so wanting in experts, that govt wants your yahoo gossip group to give an advice? If there is dispute between one’s mother and the spouse, would the wise son take any step to ’settle’ the issue in a fair manner? He knows who would have erred / crossed the Lakshman Rekha, but would never spill a word from his mouth. For he wants peace and his least effort to ’settle’ the issue fairly would invariably spoil his peace for days and months!

Well. If the govt is serious about what you asked, Ms Homemaker had given it in simple straight way. That is it, nationalise all natural resources and redistribute the usufructs FAIRLY though an autonomous expert body answerable only to the apex court in the event of a dispute on its decision. Any govt interference would nullify the very purpose of the nationalisation of resources.

Buzzbe also has given a technically feasible but economically costly proposition. We have a long coastline and a highly polluted sea carrying all the sullage (if not the sewage) and wastes. They can be purified for non consumption purpose like garden and toilet uses. The plants are costly and our govts are already overburdened with the overheads - as hinted by the lady herself - and they can not be ‘compromised’. You know about the great drama of ‘economy class’ air travel that turned out to be big tamasha!

But we have abundant rain water draining into seas every rainy season. Proper efficient rain water harvest could solve the problem. If Israel spent massive expenditure for water conservation in various ways, it was forced to, due to lowest rains. But we need not go for such costly measures. Just some sincere applicaiton of mind would solve the serious problems. But our "leader" are too busy with every thing other than solving pressing critical problems.

I often think that we immerse in cinema and sports - sorry cricket - only to forget these national problems, like the wage earner turning to alcohol, to forget his worry about his endless penury..

all natural resources should be made a national property and should be distributed equally to every state. no states should ‘own’ any natural resource. but it may be an impossible task for a very big country like india.

One years such unnecessary expenses can be be turned to instalt factory for converting sea water into drinking water.

MOST OBSURD AND WEIRD SUGGESTION (for us indians, but great to others)
it is sorting out water problem in all major american and European countries
" use water in rest room only for flushing purpose"

hope most of our YA friends staying in US agree for this

use more paper :) and min. water

now jokes apart , there was a proposal to anushandhan (interconnect) all the major rivers to avoid water shortage

as poondi sir has suggested a legislation should be introduced for rain water harvesting system should be introduced and more importantly it should be implemented strictly
