I have been a frequent yahoo answers users ever since 2007. I have posted 10 questions within the week, and 9/10 responces are people copy and pasting websites / emails to scam. I have never seen spam this bad on any website, where did it come from and how does yahoo answers plan on blocking / stopping it?
Yahoo claims that they stop 3/4 of the spam before it hits the site. We are seeing the other 1/4. Which is a lot. Yahoo must be setting up some "filters" because there are some recent changes. Click on some of the spammers’ avatars and you will see that some of them are suspended (OOPS) after they post 2 answers. They are not getting OOPS’d because of user reports since it happens so fast.
Yahoo still wants us to use the Report Abuse button as our main defense against spam. That is not adequate since the spammers set up 20 accounts per day. Each account dumps its daily limit of 20 answers. Then they come back and do it again tomorrow.
Go to the Suggestion Board ( "ABOUT" at the top of the page has the link) where users discuss the increase in spam. A live Yahoo employee reads every post on the Suggestion Board.
I have had a good and succinct answer to my question, very quickly and a complete solution. I would like to respond on Yahoo answers but I don’t know how!
Add details to your question by using the pencil icon, but make sure that the additional details are short - otherwise you might get reported for chatting. You can also click on the user’s avatar and if he allows mail contact, you can use the link provided to send him a short note. Besides that - a button appears underneath your question 4 hrs after you posted it, use it for picking a best answer (if you already got one), the BA will get 10 points from YA. When choosing the BA you’ll also be given the chance to add a comment and show your appreciation by awarding stars. Always try to choose a best answer yourself, because it returns 3 of the points that you had to invest for posting that question.
With yahoo answers you are much more likely to get negative and unreliable feedback from users compared to answerbag. Why is this?

When I go to a question to submit an answer, I often see several (sometimes lots) of previous answers to a question. However, the question in the list says there are zero (0) answers. Does Yahoo just not update the Answer Questions list very often? If so, why not?
If you are looking at the HOME page of Yahoo Answers, that will happen a lot. Here’s why. The question post first to the category it belongs it. Then, it posts to the home page. By the time the original question posting (showing ‘0′ answers) is posted on the Home page, it has already been answered by those of us that hang out in the category section, waiting to pounce and respond.
Do you have some kind of criteria you use? Sometimes I will pick the one that is the longest, or the person who responded first with a good solid detailed answer.
I just asked how to make pie crust with a crushed cookie and 3 people already responded with awesome answers, each slightly different but the same idea.
I pick by one of three ways… first I check to see if one of my favorites is any better than the others. If I really can’t decide that, I check to see which has the most thumbs up. If they are the same I then check to see who has the fewest points on Y!A and pick the lowest one. And if all that doesn’t seem to pick the best one for me I just put the question to vote.
When a question I’ve answered goes into voting and I feel like I have the best answer and vote for myself, the voting shows that I still have 0 votes and it will not let me vote again, even for someone else. It has done this to me several times. Are we not allowed to vote for our own answers?
There is a glitch in the voting and the thumbs up and down for the past week. If you go back to the question you will see it has registered, some answers say 6 have 100% votes so don’t worry it will register.

When you ask a question on Yahoo Answers, how often are the answers satisfactory? 20% of the time? 50? 90? 100?
Please answer only if you’ve asked more than ten questions on YA.
The best responses by far have been on computer related questions. I have gotten some excellent advice on these matters.
Everything else is a crap shoot. I would say fifty fifty. When you ask people stuff anonymously on the internet you have to realize that some people will answer with good intentions and some will just try to jack with you.
